Healthcare Scholarship: Express Scripts Foundation

Express Scripts is a pharmacy benefit management company that, through the mail order prescription program they manage, offers an affordable prescription drug alternative to traditional pharmacies. They are dedicated to providing safer, more affordable prescription drugs. To meet this goal, they provide assistance and grants to health, wellness, and community organizations throughout the communities they serve. Their Foundation Grants for Charitable Programs offers grants of varying amounts to qualifying organizations.

Express Scripts Foundation Overview

The Express Scripts Foundation grant focuses on non-profit organizations that:

•provide access to health and medical services
•provide services to US military and families
•aid children and families in need
•support pharmacy education
•educate underserved youth populations
•provide disaster relief

Special consideration is given to organizations that:

•have Express Scripts employees as active volunteers
•are known as industry thought leaders
•promote preventive care and provide health care education
•provide health care access to underserved and uninsured children and families
•promote careers in pharmacy
•support education for at-risk students

Other criteria include:

•organizations must be eligible non-profits
•typical grant term is one year; organizations must reapply if they need multiple years of funding
•outcomes must be measureable and organizations must have broad community support and stability
•must be located in an area served by an Express Scripts facility
•must have evidence and support for sustainability beyond the term of the grant

Eligibility Requirements

•active and responsible boards of trustees
•ethical standards in publicity and fundraising
•provide and audit and prove long term fiscal viability
•ALL programs must be tax-exempt according to the Internal Revenue Code

In addition, organizations must practice fiscal responsibility and provide evaluation and status reports that include:

•proof that events have taken place
•results for stated measureable goals
•events, anticipated and unanticipated, which affected the program
•challenges and concerns that arise and how they are handled
•an accounting of funds

This report should be submitted no more than 60 days after completion of the project/grant period.

Application Deadline

December 1, 2014 (If an organization is denied, they must wait 12 calendar months before reapplying)

Amount

Grant amounts vary widely and are assessed for each individual organization according to feasibility and need.
