Healthcare Scholarship: American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Awards
Overview of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Award
The American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Award is intended to recognize and reward exceptional students who are interested in pharmacy practice. Full-time second- to fourth-year pharmacy students are welcome to apply.
Award recipients receive a $2,000 cash award, funded by the ASHP Research and Education Foundation and the Walter Jones Memorial Pharmacy Student Financial Aid Fund. Recipients also receive an ASHP drug information reference library and an award plaque.
To apply for the award, you must complete a questionnaire on your professional and academic experiences. In this questionnaire, provided by the ASHP, you should outline your pharmacy-related experiences on campus, within student organizations, at relevant internships, and in the world. Focus on providing details not already provided within the resume or personal essay, to round out your picture as a candidate.
You must also compose an essay of 750 words or less, reflecting your thoughts on how to raise awareness of the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative to student colleagues. Applicants should compose the essay to reflect their roles as student leaders, as well as their understanding and appreciation of the Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative. You must also include three signed letters of recommendation in your scholarship application, including one from a faculty member, one from a pharmacy practitioner and one by a student peer. Alongside each letter of recommendation, the individuals recommending you must also complete a “Recommendation Form.” Finally, each applicant must submit an up-to-date and relevant resume or CV and a completed “Certification and Acceptance” signature page. All relevant forms may be accessed on the ASHP website.
All applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm ET on January 30th. In order to apply, applicants must first register with the American Society of Health System Pharmacists Foundation and create an online account. A winning application will clearly demonstrate the applicant’s leadership ability, commitment to pharmacy practice, academic merit, and interest in the activities of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, with a view toward furthering the field of pharmacy. Many past award recipients have held active roles in their on-campus SSHP, PLS, ASHP or AphA chapters.
