Healthcare Scholarship: CDA Foundation

Overview of the Latinos for Dental Careers Scholarship

The CDA Foundation awards its annual Latinos for Dental Careers Scholarship in partnership with the Latinos for Dental Careers (LDC). The awards are intended to recognize and promote the efforts of dental, dental hygiene students of Latino descent. The award is also meant to promote the CDA Foundation’s mission, of improving the oral health of all Californians by supporting the dental profession to meet community needs. The award targets Latino students, in line with the Latinos for Dental Careers’ mission, to promote the interest of individuals of Latino heritage in the dental industry.

To qualify, applicants must be current, full-time students in California dental school programs. As of 2014, all applications must be submitted between January 1st and May 31st. As the application window may vary slightly from one year to the next, it’s worth checking on the CDA website for up-to-date specifics. Winning applicants receive a $1,000 award, to be paid directly to the California dental school university account. In addition, all scholarship winners are invited to the Latinos for Dental Careers Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner in the fall, where they are recognized for their accomplishments.

In order to be eligible for the award, you must be a dental student, dental hygiene student or an international student dentist. Applicants must prove their full-time enrollment in an accredited dental school in the state of California.

Upon receiving the scholarship, all recipients are also required to acknowledge receipt of the award by a thank you letter, mailed by post to the CDA Foundation. As funding is donation-based, the number of recipients may vary from one year to the next. Typically, between 4 and 14 students are honored each year. While the one-time scholarship is not renewable, applicants who have previously been honored may apply a second time, provided they continue to meet all the requirements.

All applicants must submit the online application form, two letters of recommendation and evidence of enrollment. All documents must be uploaded and submitted together, electronically, by the application due date. Additional requirements may vary from one year to the next. Full details, including all forms, are provided online on the CDA website prior to the annual application submission period, which begins on January 1st.
